Moran Eye Center, the Cardiovascular Center, the Clinical Neurosciences Center, and the Utah Diabetes Center.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Director of University of Utah Hospitals will have operational responsibility for University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Hospital and University Neuropsychiatric Institute. In this position you will be responsible for coordinating clinical resource management initiatives, developing and implementing strategic initiatives, and implementing measures to make us more efficient as an organization. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record for improving operational efficiency and developing strategic direction.
This position directs the operations and strategic planning of human resources, customer/patient services, and financial management for assigned units of operations in supporting the goals and mission. The incumbent acts as a catalyst between departments, faculty, physicians and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service.
This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

- Strategic Planning, Goal Development: Guides multiple areas or divisions in mission, vision, and values. Provides input into the department strategy and planning. Operationalizes the strategy in alignment with the organization goals and strategy. Demonstrates forward thinking.
- Execution, Policy Development and Implementation: Plans and implements projects to improve performance. Measures impact of improvement. Demonstrates innovation and creativity in accomplishing responsibilities. Demonstrates strong project management and team leadership skills. Clarifies and implements organizational and department policies and procedures. Develops department policies in alignment with organizational policies.
- Financial: Has overall financial responsibility for the labor and operations of assigned area. Manages the financial interdependencies within the department. Accountable for the accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports.
- Collaboration, Relationship Building and Networking: Networks and builds relationships with others within the organization and with others in similar organizations. Serves effectively on department committees and interdisciplinary committees as well as Heath Sciences committees. Contributes to the profession through national leadership positions, presentations and publications.
- Human Resources – Hiring, Orienting, and Developing: Manages the hiring, orienting and development of staff. Conducts employee evaluations, coaching and disciplinary processes to align employee performance and behaviors. Responsible for the training and education of staff, including annual compliance and licensing or certification. Develops succession plans for leadership positions within the department. Assists in the programmatic planning of department training programs. Plans for rotational experiences and schedules students and residents. May serve as residency program director or coordinator. Precepts residents and students as assigned. Serves as a role model as a leader and preceptor.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills.
- Ability to determine the appropriate staff mixes to support patient and customer needs.
- Knowledge of hospital business operations and demonstrated strategic planning skills.
- Knowledge of budgeting practices, reporting analysis, and forecasting.
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, service orientation, and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
Required
- Advanced degree (PharmD or MS) or equivalent clinical practice experience.
- Five years of progressive management experience with a track record for results oriented performance.
All of the following license(s)
- Current licensure to dispense controlled substances in the State of Utah.
- Current Pharmacy license in the State of Utah.*LI-AD1
